Biography :

Dr. Chee Kong YAP (Male; Chinese) is a Malaysian and was born in Kuala Lumpur in July 1973. He is currently an Associate Professor at the Department of Biology, Faculty of Science, Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) since May 2009 and previously he was appointed as a lecturer and senior lecturer in 2003 and 2007, respectively, at the same Department. He obtained his Bachelor of Science with Education (Hons), Masters of Science and Ph.D. degrees in 1998, 2000 and 2003, respectively, from the Faculty of Science and Environmental Studies from UPM. As an academician for more than 15 years in UPM and 20 years as a researcher, he has been active in teaching and doing research since his first degree. He has been teaching the courses of Biological Concepts, Ecology, Ecotoxicology, and Aquatic Ecosystem Management in the undergraduate level, and Research Methodology at the postgraduate level, with more than 180 credit hours since 2003. He has supervised more than 78 undergraduates and 31 postgraduate students (as a Chairman and Member of Supervisory Committee) in the fields of ecotoxicology, environmental pollution, environmental biology, environmental sciences, water quality and ecotoxicological genetics. His research area is mainly focused on biomonitoring and monitoring of inorganic pollutants (heavy metals) in the aquatic environment using mollusks and sediments. Under his chairmanship, three Ph.D. and seven Master students have successfully graduated so far in UPM. In recognition of his expertise and research capabilities, he has been awarded ten research grants as principal investigator (PI) including from Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI, Malaysia), Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE, Malaysia) and Research University Grant Scheme (RUGS, Universiti Putra Malaysia), with nine, successfully completed projects and one is still going on. In addition, he has also been a Co-PI with three completed projects nationally and internationally currently with University of Tabuk (KSA) under University of Tabuk Deanship for Scientific Research. Owing to recognition in his field, he has been invited as a reviewer in various prominent impact factor journals besides some non-cited journals. Until November 2018, he has reviewed voluntarily more than 380 citation-indexed and noncitation–indexed journal manuscripts for more than 110 different academic international journals. Dr. Yap has been active in publications as evidenced with his research outputs with more than 261 published in refereed academic journals, 5 books, 32 book chapters, more than 22 international conferences/ proceedings, 45 national conferences/ proceedings, 9 invited papers and 32 poster presentations (with 1 Gold Medal, 6 Silver Medals and 14 Bronze Medals at UPMs Invention, Research and Innovation Exhibition (PRPI). His single-authored book entitled Mussel Watch in Malaysia: Past, Present and Future (UPM Press, 2012) is his significant output of his 20-year research endeavour. Two papers were ranked among the Top 25 Hottest (Most Downloaded) Articles in the Environment International (Q1 journal) and Ecotoxicology and Environmental Safety (Q2 journal). From 2002 until December 2018, he has already published 261 peer-reviewed papers in which he is the first author/ corresponding author for more than 200 papers. In addition, he has published 21 papers (8.60%) as single author of the paper. Until December 2018, 192 of them (including book chapters) have now been indexed in Elsevier’s Scopus with an H-index of 22 (>2072 citations) and H-index of 26 (>3284 citations) based on Google Scholar. In recognition of his scientific achievement and research outputs, his biography has been 23rd 24th 31st 32nd selected for inclusion in the (2006), (2007), (2014) and (2015) Editions of the 30th Marquis Whos Who in the World, Pearl Anniversary Edition of Marquis Whos Who in the 1st 1st 2nd World 2012, Edition of Marquis Whos Who of Emerging Leaders 2006, (2007) and 11th (2012) Editions of Marquis Whos Who in Asia, and Edition of Marquis Who’s Who in Science and Technology 2011-2012. Dr. Yap also has received an international award for Award 21st for Excellence in Research 2014 (EET CRS), on July 2014 from Bangalore, India. In addition, 9th his biography has been chosen to be included in the Edition of 2000 Outstanding Intellectuals 21st of the Century, by International Biographical Center (IBC), Cambridge, UK. Due to his good record of publications in both journals, he has been officially invited as one of the Associate Editors (AE) of Malaysian Applied Biology Journal (MABJ; Scopus) since 2011, and an Editorial Board Member (EBM) of UPM distinguished journals- Pertanika Journal of Tropical Agricultural Science (PJTAS; Scopus) since 2009, and previously for Pertanika Journal of Science and Technology (2006-2008). Internationally, he has also been invited in honorary as EBM/AE for more than 42 academic journals since 2008. Thus far, he is a life-time member of Fellow for International Congress of Chemistry and Environment (FICCE; India) and Associate for International Congress of Chemistry and Environment (AICCE; India), member of American Chemical Society (ACS; USA), and he has also been offered free membership from the Asian Council of Science Editor (Dubai, UAE) and Asian Chemical Society (life membership; India). He is appointed as a research advisor of Nan Yang Academy of Sciences (Singapore), and an academic member of the Athen Institute for Education and Research (ATINER; Greece). He has also been offered memberships of the editorial board/ review committee/ expert panel of Global Illuminators research journals and conferences (Malaysia), and International Research Conference (IRC) Series Scientific and Technical Committee & Editorial Review Board on Marine and Environmental Sciences (WASET; Turkey). He is also recognized as an expert and coordinated the steam entitled Water Pollution 6th 7th as part of the (2018) and (2019) Annual International Forum on Water in Athens, Greece. He is also a member of Diversity of the Indo-Pacific Network (DIPnet) since 2014. Nationally, he is a member of the Malaysian Society of Applied Biology. Based on the Dr. Yaps profile in Top Research Scientists Malaysia database, he has been appointed as Member of Young Scientists Network- Academy of Sciences Malaysia (YSN-ASM). Dr. Yap has attended the Training workshop on lntegrated Exposure and Effects Analysis (IEEA)in Southeast Asia, 2017 in Center for Health and Environmentali Risk Research at National lnstitute of Environinental Studies, Tsukuba, Japan, as an invited visiting researcher. Internationally, he has been an invited visiting professor at Nihon University (Japan) and Hokkaido University (Japan), and an invited visiting researcher at Kobe University (Japan) and Kobe College (Japan). So far, Dr. Yap has one accepted patent during his patent filing and application in November 2019, UPM.
