Biography :
Jay Khastgir has been a Senior Consultant Urological Surgeon at Bridgend, South Wales, since 2007 and a Senior Lecturer in Urology at the Swansea University School of Medicine. He has had a CCT (UK) from 2008, after having completed the Intercollegiate sub-speciality FRCS (Urology) in 2007. He holds two FRCS qualifications from the Royal Colleges of Edinburgh & Glasgow from 1996, and completed a Masters in Surgery in 1994. He has a subspecialist interest in academic and functional urology with broad experience in all areas of urology. He is well known for his subspecialist skills in the management of overactive bladder dysfunction, female and male incontinence, neuropathic bladder dysfunction, male lower urinary tract symptoms, complex urodynamics, pelvic pain syndrome and voiding dysfunctions. He is also experienced in the management of impotence/erectile dysfunction, ureteric stone disease, haematuria, bladder, prostate and testicular cancers and infections. He is Editor in chief of ‘Urology News’, a well-regarded Urology journal for urologists and allied professionals, and is on the editorial board for several other urology journals. He has numerous publications in peer reviewed journals and has authored several book chapters. He is Faculty at the European School of Urology and was the Chairman of the Functional Urology Module of the European Urology Residents’ Educational Programme (EUREP). In his role as Senior Lecturer at the Swansea University Medical School Mr Khastgir is the programme lead for Urology. He mentors and provides training for all grades of trainees. He received distinction grades for a Diploma in Postgraduate Medical Education. He has completed training on the Medicolegal aspects of clinical practice and is an Expert Witness for UK Courts. He has a keen interest in consent for surgery, non-clinical factors which influence outcomes and medicolegal aspects of adverse events in surgery.
Research Interest :
Mr Khastgir's research interests include overactive bladder dysfunction, female and male incontinence, neuropathic bladder dysfunction, male lower urinary tract symptoms, complex urodynamics, pelvic pain syndrome and voiding dysfunctions. He is also experienced in the management of impotence/erectile dysfunction, ureteric stone disease, haematuria, bladder, prostate and testicular cancers and infections.
